The RFI tracker guide is the reference for how an RFI moves through its lifecycle and who holds the ball. An RFI goes Draft, Open, Answered, Closed: the Drafter creates Drafts, sending makes it Open, a reply or a meeting decision marks it Answered, and a person closes it. Ball-in-court is a field on the RFI that you can edit.
What is the lifecycle of an RFI?
Draft → Open → Answered → Closed. The Drafter creates Drafts; sending for review makes the RFI Open; a reply from the architect's review link, or a meeting decision that resolves the RFI, marks it Answered; closing it is a person's decision.
How is ball-in-court set?
The Drafter suggests a ball-in-court role (such as Architect or Structural Engineer) when it drafts the RFI. It is not read from a contract clause. You can change it on the RFI at any time, and you enter the recipient's e-mail address when you send.
